How to make a shortcut of a website URL in Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Safari and Internet Explore in Window 10, Window 11 or MacOS.

In this post, I will show you how to create a shortcut of a website in Window 10, Window 11 or Mac operating system. This also include any kind of URL fx. Your workspace wants you to login every day, usually these logins are long URL’s and you don’t want to type that every single day. For that you can create a shortcut of the webpage to your desktop which makes your everyday life easier.


So, let’s start, First I will show you,

How to create a website URL shortcut in Window10 or Window11 operating system using Edge browser.

I believe this should works on another window operating system as well.

  • Open your edge browser.
  • Type the website URL you want to create a shortcut to in your edge browser. In this example I want to create a shortcut of login.microsoftonline.com to my desktop.
  • If you want to create a shortcut of website URL to your desktop you can resize the window like this, so we have a location to place the shortcut. Now, if you see the starting of the URL before https:// there is a luck key, (it says ‘View Site information’ and you hover your mouse on it. it is called SSL certification sign, click to that.
  • Now While clicking, drag the luck key to your desktop. Feel Free to rename it to your convenient. You just created a shortcut of a website URL on your window.
  • So, let’s test this shortcut, just click to it and the shortcut URL will open.

  • Open your chrome browser.
  • Type the website URL you want to create a shortcut to in your chrome browser. In this example I want to create a shortcut of youtube.com to my desktop using google chrome.
  • If you want to create a shortcut of website URL to your desktop you can resize the window like this, so we have a location to place the shortcut. Now, if you see the URL before https:// there is a luck key, (it says ‘View Site information’ if you hover your mouse on it. it is called SSL certification sign, click to that.
  • Now While clicking, drag the luck key to your desktop. Feel Free to rename it to your convenient. You just created a shortcut of a website URL on your window.
  • So, let’s test this shortcut, just click to it and the shortcut URL will open.

Ok, these two are with SSL verified site, you click to the luck and drag them to your desktop, how should you create a shortcut of a website URL that is not SSL certified. Or, how to bookmark a website which is not Hyperlink secure or HTTPS secure?

Let’s try this URL, this URL is wildcard subdomain URL, which is costly to install SSL, how to bookmark similar ‘Not secure’ website. If you see the URL bar it says not secure. It’s very easy.

  • Just click on the not secure text and drag it to desktop. You just created a shortcut of not secure website URL.
  • To test, just double click and your created shortcut website is open.

  • Open your Internet explorer browser.
  • Type the website URL you want to create a shortcut to in your chrome browser. In this example I want to create a shortcut of MSN.com to my desktop using Internet explorer browser.
  • If you want to create a shortcut of website URL to your desktop, if your browser is full screen you can resize the window, so we have a location to place the shortcut. Now, if you see the URL before https:// there is a website icon. If there is no icon it should be like globe look alike icon.
  • Now While clicking drag the icon key to your desktop. Feel Free to rename it to your convenient. You just created a shortcut of a website on internet explorer.
  • So, let’s test this shortcut, just click to it and the shortcut URL will open.
